Bastille was joined by the Baltic Sea Philharmonic in Germany this past weekend to put on a special performance for the band's ReOrchestrated show. The band and symphony reimagined many of The electro-rockers songs for a once-in-a-lifetime performance.
On Tuesday (January 7), Bastille shared the first video from the concert of “The Waves” originally off their album Doom Days — which dropped in June 2019. “So proud + excited to post this performance,” they wrote on Instagram. “It was one of the best things we’ve ever been involved in, and so brilliant to play with @balticseaphilharmonic and our incredible choir.”
The result is an ethereal and soft version of the otherwise electric-heavy song. Strings, airy flutes, and a powerful choir replace the drumbeat on the original song while singer Dan Smith's voice is as emotional as ever.
The video was performed in front of a live audience and the band promises more videos to come. The new version of the song is part of Bastille's extended version of Doom Days titled Doom Days (This Got Out Of Hand Edition) — which was released in early December.
“It’s an expanded version of the album, with new & previously unreleased songs that fill in more of the story of the 'Doom Days' night, some beautiful new ReOrchestrated collaborations, and some nods to our past few years,” the band previously explained. “It’ll be released digitally on Friday and we can’t wait for you to hear it."
Smith also explained the meaning of many of the new songs on Instagram in 30 seconds or less and it was a delight!
